Location. Overlooking Hilo Bay, the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel enjoys a beautiful location in Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is a quaint, flower-filled retreat with Victorian homes and a restored downtown area that experiences more rain than any other American city. The Big Island of Hawaii offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. From surfing and scuba diving to volcano and waterfall exploration, there is something for everyone. Old banyan trees line the drive to the hotel, most of which were planted in the 1930's by celebrities such as Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart and Cecil B. DeMille. Mauna Kea looms in the background and the arched bridge that leads to Coconut Island is only steps from the doors of the resort. The hotel is flanked by a beautiful beach, the Liliuokalani Gardens and the Naniloa Country Club. Hotel Features. The hotel's bayside pool is surrounded by a large sundeck and lounge chairs. The hotel staff provides concierge services, business services and currency exchange. Safe-deposit boxes are located at the front desk and laundry facilities are available.
Guestrooms. Most of the rooms at the hotel feature balconies or patios and have views of Hilo Bay or the enormous banyan trees out front. Cable television and Internet access are standard amenities.
Expert Tip. The Panaewa Zoo, six miles from the hotel, is the only tropical rainforest zoo in the United States and is home to more than 80 species of animals. Some of the more popular being the giant anteaters, a pygmy hippo, spider monkeys and Namaste', a large white Bengal tiger.
