Location. The Brampton Inn is located in Chestertown, Md., in an area that is said to contain the second highest number of 18th-century homes in the state. The city's downtown is one mile away, offering specialty and gift shops, antiques, art galleries, restaurants and historic homes overlooking the Chester River. Washington College is less than three miles away.
Features. Built in 1860, this Greek Revival home is nestled on 20 wooded acres threaded with walking trails and flowering gardens. Complimentary full breakfasts featuring lemon ginger muffins and several varieties of pancakes are served each morning in the dining room. Afternoon tea is held every day, and features homemade treats including almond biscotti, cheddar-dill scones and bread pudding. The house is equipped with wireless Internet access. Guests have privileges at a local golf course one mile away, and can use the swimming pool at the Rock Hall Yacht Club. Concierge services, including assistance planning itineraries, are provided.
Guestrooms. The Brampton Inn offers seven guest accommodations in the main house and three units contained in two cottages. All units offer private bathrooms, most with towel warmers, bathrobes and quality bath amenities. Select guestrooms offer televisions, VCRs or DVD players. Accommodations showcase antiques and Oriental rugs. The Yellow Room features a fireplace, separate sitting area, jetted tub and canopy tiger maple bed. All cottage rooms offer the privacy of separate entrances and dedicated parking, and include refrigerators and coffeemakers.
Expert Tip. On the first Friday of every month, Chestertown holds a "First Friday" celebration, where shops and galleries stay open late and allow local artists to meet with the public, sometimes over wine and cheese.
