Location. The Chestnut Street Inn is located on a residential street surrounded by century-old maple, lilac and redbud trees in Sheffield, Ill. The inn is less than five miles from the Mautino State Fish and Wildlife Area, a restored strip mine that offers 900 acres of fishing, hunting and hiking trails. Historic Princeton, Ill. is less than 17 miles away, and offers historical sites, museums and antique malls. Features. Built in 1854, this Colonial Revival inn features a three-story floating spindle staircase, French doors and a chandelier in the foyer. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning in the formal dining room or sunlit garden room overlooking the inn's grounds. Four-course gourmet dinners, which are also available to the public, are served for a fee. The inn includes a living room with a fireplace, a front porch and a back patio. Pets are not allowed at this property.
Guestrooms. The Chestnut Street Inn offers four individually decorated guest accommodations offering cable television and VCRs. All guestrooms offer private bathrooms stocked with bathrobes, herbal soaps and other complimentary toiletries. Accommodations are equipped with complimentary wireless Internet access. The Maid's Quarters is comprised of an entire private wing of the house, and includes two bedrooms, a bathroom and a screened-in porch. The Rosewood Suite offers a fireplace, and the Blue Room features a fishnet canopy bed.
Expert Tip. In the summer and fall Princeton offers two theatre festivals showcasing Shakespeare plays and contemporary works such as "Little Shop of Horrors".
