Location.The East Bay Inn is located in Savannah, Ga., within the city's Historic Landmark District. The inn is one-half block from the Savannah River and River Street's cobblestone walkways, shops, museums and nightclubs. The inn is one-half mile from City Market's art studios, galleries and dining venues. Less than four miles from the inn is The Club at Savannah Harbor golf course.
Features.The East Bay Inn is a three-story, 1852 Greek Revival-style commercial building converted in 1984 into a bed- and-breakfast inn. Cast-iron columns, artwork and potted plants grace the East Bay Inn's lobby, which features Victorian-style furnishings. The inn hosts an evening reception with complimentary wine and appetizers. Adjacent to the lobby, the inn serves complimentary continental breakfasts in its vintage-style breakfast cafe. Beneath the inn's street-level lobby is the Skyler Restaurant. This popular underground dining venue features a fusion of cultural cuisines derived from the owners' backgrounds: Ms. Moon is from Vietnam and Charles Coolidge is from Atlanta. The Asian-, European- and American-influenced specialties include Vietnamese shrimp and crab egg rolls with ginger sauce, rack of lamb with rosemary sauce, and Savannah crab cakes with classic Creole rémoulade sauce.
Guestrooms.The East Bay Inn contains 28 individually decorated guestrooms featuring Victorian-style decor and antique- reproduction furnishings. All units offer complimentary wireless Internet access, bottled water and cable television with premium channels. All units have private bathrooms with bathrobes.
Expert Tip.The East Bay Inn's building originally held a warehouse and office space for cotton merchants when cotton was king in the Deep South. The building stood vacant for nearly two decades until the 1980s, when a movement to preserve Savannah's rich architectural history led to the building's complete reconstruction into today's landmark inn.
