The Far View Lodge sits 8,200 feet above sea level in the forests of Mesa Verde National Park in Cortez, Colo. Mesa Verde, which means "green table" in Spanish, rolls with valleys and sharp mountain peaks. The park features elaborate ruins of stone villages and shelters constructed along steep canyon walls by 13th-century Pueblo civilizations. The villages have become known as cliff dwellings. Daily tours of Mesa Verde's ruins and scenic cliffs depart from Far View Lodge. Park rangers escort guests on the full-day and half-day walking tours of archaeological sites, or guests can enjoy self-guided scenic driving tours through the park. The Far View Lodge is comprised of 13 lodge buildings with 150 guestrooms featuring private balconies with views over three states. The hotel includes an on-site restaurant, lounge and gift shop. To preserve a tranquil atmosphere, guestrooms are decorated in pueblo colors and do not have televisions, telephones or air conditioning. The Far View's location high in the Mesa Verde National Park is a secluded retreat surrounded by natural beauty.
