Location. Lodgecliffe on the Choptank in Cambridge, Md., is perched on a bluff looking out over the Choptank River. Cambridge is home to several museums, including the Annie Oakley House, the Richardson Maritime Museum and the Underground Railroad: Harriet Tubman Museum, each less than two miles from the bed and breakfast.
Features. This Victorian-style home, built in the 1890s, features a grand staircase and yellow floral living room, which opens out to an enclosed porch area with wicker furniture. The formal dining room is filled with an eclectic mix of antiques and modern pieces. Full, complimentary breakfasts, featuring crab quiche and bacon, French toast and sausage, banana pancakes and eggs, and cheese grit casserole with biscuits and gravy, are served on the open-air deck, porch or dining room. Delivery of coffee and muffins to the guestrooms is available upon request. Complimentary afternoon tea, dessert, non-alcoholic beverages, wine and cheese are offered each day. Dinner is available upon request for a fee. The house specialty is Lodgecliffe's Chesapeake Bake, a delicious blend of three cheeses baked into a creamy seafood casserole, including local crab, scallops, shrimp and rock fish, tastefully complemented by cranberry salad with homemade dressing.

Guestrooms. Guestrooms at the Lodgecliffe on the Choptank, redecorated in 2005, offer contemporary furnishings, hardwood floors, matching bedroom sets and armchairs or day beds. Select rooms offer private decks with views of the river. Fresh flowers and plants complement each room.

Expert Tip. The inn overlooks the wide expanse of the lower Choptank River, the setting for James Michener's book, Chesapeake. Guests can sit on the back deck sipping their morning coffee and watch the watermen fill their boats with colorful blue crabs in the summer. In the winter, guests can watch the watermen haul up oysters from the river in the dining room.
