Location. The Almondy Inn is located in Newport, R.I., within the city's gas-lit Historic Hill district. The inn is one block from the wharfs on Narragansett Bay, and less than two miles from Cliff Walk, a National Recreation Trail along Rhode Island's rugged Atlantic coastline.
Features. The Almondy Inn is an 1890 three-story Queen Anne-style home featuring a turret, dormer windows and a classic wraparound porch set off with white columns and turned-spindle railing. The inn hosts an evening reception with wine and appetizers in the parlor, which features a fireplace, a large bay window, a crystal chandelier suspended from the ceiling and hardwood floors softened with oriental rugs. Adjacent to the parlor is a formal dining room, where guests receive complimentary breakfasts of fresh fruit salads, freshly baked muffins and signature dishes. Morning coffee can be delivered to guestrooms upon request. Other amenities include concierge services for obtaining tickets and reservations to area attractions.
Guestrooms. The Almondy Inn contains five individually decorated Victorian-style guestrooms with Newport Bay views. Select accommodations have fireplaces, bay windows and balconies. All guestrooms provide private bathrooms with bathrobes; many are equipped with jetted tubs. Other amenities include bottled water, cable television with VCR/CD players and complimentary wireless Internet access.
Expert Tip. More than a dozen of Newport's distinguished mansions are accessible either through self-guided or docent-led walking tours. Many of these stately mansions are located along Bellevue Avenue, located four blocks from the inn.
