The Russell-Cooper House is positioned between Lake Hiawatha, Knox Lake and Apple Valley Lake in Mount Vernon, Ohio. This property is two blocks from the Dan Emmett Conference and Banquet Center, and five blocks from the city's Main Street, boasting quaint shops, a variety of eateries and antique stores. Mount Vernon Nazarene University is two miles away, and Kenyon College is less than five miles from the property. The Russell-Cooper House boasts regal design characterized by high embossed ceilings, cherry, maple and walnut woodwork, etched and stained-glass windows, and a marble fireplace accompanied by a carved-cherry mantle. Candlelit gourmet breakfasts are served each morning in the breakfast room. High tea, luncheons and wine tasting are held at the house on occasion. Fax service and complimentary wireless Internet access are available. A library, sunroom and garden provide lounging areas, and the house features a hot tub, newly added in 2006. An array of historical Russell-Cooper memorabilia, Civil War items and antique medical devices are featured throughout the house.
The six guestrooms at the Russell-Cooper House include private bathrooms and decor reflecting themes including French Country, Oriental and English Country. All accommodations feature period decor and antiques. Rooms generally include dressers, chairs, desks and four-poster or sleigh beds. The Colonel's Room, named after Colonel William C. Cooper, boasts the colonel's personal effects, including civil war documents.
