Location. The Sofitel Washington Lafayette Square is located in Washington, D.C., one block from the McPherson metro station Blue and Orange lines. The White House stands two blocks from the hotel.
Hotel Features. Fronted by American and French flags, this European-style hotel's entryway leads to a marble-clad lobby decorated with dark-wood furnishings and original artwork. A library located adjacent to the lobby offers plush red-velvet seating and a selection of reading materials. Dining options include ICI Urban Bistro that presents a contemporary twist on traditional French bistro cuisine. Le Bar is located at the entrance to the hotel and serves complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day and into the evening hours. The business center houses three computer stations and offers fax and photocopy services. A total of 3,300 square feet of function space accommodates events. Pets are welcome at the Sofitel Lafayette Square hotel.
Guestrooms. This 12-story property offers 237 modern-style guestrooms embellished with Art Deco accents. Black-and-white photographs of famous Washington, D.C., landmarks grace the walls. Sofitel My Beds consist of pillowtop mattresses, down duvets, and a selection of down and throw pillows. Refrigerators are available for a fee upon request. All rooms include flat-screen televisions. High-speed wired and wireless Internet access is available for a fee. Laptop-compatible, in-room safes are complimentary. Bathrooms contain separate bathtubs and separate glass-enclosed showers.
Expert Tip. The Octagon House is located three blocks from the hotel. This Federal-period mansion and museum, located at the corner of New York Avenue and 18th Street, was built by a friend of George Washington and is purported to be haunted. James Madison signed the Treaty of Ghent in the Octagon House's Treaty Room, which signified the end of the War of 1812.
